World Wonder Machu Picchu involves Peruvian high Andes mountain forest, beautiful settings, Inkas art, architecture, engineering, agriculture, astronomy and hydraulics.
Machu Picchu is at 2430 m (7960 ft.) , 50 miles NW from Cusco city, built on a ridge between Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu Mountains above Urubamba River Valley.
Yale University, National Geographic Society and Peruvian government supported Hiram Bingham in 1911 Machu Picchu discovery that had been known only by local people until then.
In 1983 UNESCO designated Machu Picchu World Heritage Site, describing it as "absolute architectural masterpiece and unique Inca civilization testimony.
Archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was Inca emperor Pachacuti estate (1438–1472) who had begun fabulous stone constructions in Cuzco, Pisac and Ollantaytambo.
Machupicchu was abandoned just over 100 years later, in 1572, as Spanish Conquest belated result.
It is possible most inhabitants died from smallpox introduced by travelers before Spanish conquistadors arrived in the area.
The Spaniards had notes about Piccho, although there is no Spanish records having visited this remote city.
Many sacred rock types were defaced by Spanish conquistadors in other locations but untouched in Machu Picchu.
Its main sections are: Agricultural sector, Urban sector, Military sector, Cemetery, Sacred Rock, Sacred Plaza, Three window temple, Main temple, Main Plaza and Sun Temple

Inti Raymi Festival in Cusco is about to reenact rituals based on Inca religion to celebrate and honor Sun God.
This celebration symbolizes deep bondage between Sun god and us (his children).
Inti Raymi was celebrated during Inca winter solstice to keep Sun God happy as they were afraid he would go away and leave his children behind because he was seen shorter time during the day.
The ceremony involved mass Llamas sacrifice offered to “Pachamama”, Mother Earth, fertility goddess and harvests.
There is no blood shed in today’s reenacted ceremony.
The ceremony is performed at three locations in Cusco, at 9:00 am at Coricancha, (Sun Temple), around 10:30 am at Plaza de Armas “Main Plaza” and around 2:00 pm at Saqsayhuaman.
